Launched in 2011, the Sun Odyssey 44DS is the latest innovation from the Jeanneau Yard. Making its debut at Southampton International Boat show, designers Franck Darnet & Flahault together with the Jeanneau team have produced a sail boat that is quite simply a joy to sail. A change to the coach roof lines thus lowering the roof gives improved vision from the helm. Control of the main sail is led back to the twin helm position using the German main sheet system on the Sun Odyssey 44DS. This system is perfect for short handed sailing. Jeanneau have cleverly retained the internal ergonomics taking them to another level. Moving from the large cockpit to the saloon and galley you get a great feeling of space and light. Clever design takes the visual width of this yacht out to the edge of the hull. Lighting is by ultra-low powered L.E.D. lamps which add to the feeling of space in this comfortable mid-range yacht. This is a large Yacht that can be handled easily by one person out at sea. Available with 360 Docking, a child could put the Sun Odyssey 44DS on her berth with this revolutionary docking system
What a fantastic Idea why didn’t Jeanneau introduce it years ago, so why has it taken so long to introduce 360 docking to Yachts? Like every idea that has a simple solution the path to put that idea into action takes a number of ingredients. The Idea of 360 docking has been around for many years but environment resistant computerised technology needed to catch up with the dreams of the designers.
Until now the technology has not been available at an affordable price required to achieve a level of reliability required. Jeanneau are delighted that there investment in time and research has blossomed into results, allowing a new generation of Yachting to begin.
Many people who have busy lives dream about owning a Yacht. A yacht must be big enough for all the family and friends who will join you in your dream. They will also want to have a stress free experience with you at the helm of your yacht. Even if you have had hours of practice and have a powerful bowthruster fitted to your Sailboat there will be many occasions when you just wish you could go sideways a foot or two. Or perhaps or hold you position with absolute accuracy in almost all weather conditions. Many people spend a season out and about on their boat and loose the skill required to park in a congested marina over the winter lay up. With 360 Docking you can feel confident even if you hardly ever bother with marina berthing.
Once you’re out of the marina into safe water there is no need for stress, you have all the room in the world to learn and make your mistakes along the way without paying the embracing penalty of gouging another boat.
Too many people leave the Yachting hobby because the stress of getting out and back into a Marina berth means they don’t enjoy owning a Yacht.
